Our Story
Hello, I'm Charlie, founder of Sleepy Bee Studio.
I started the studio in 2019 alongside my husband Gavin, a graphic designer who leads on the technical side of the business – from the website to print production. Day to day, the studio is run by me as a calligrapher and artist, with a background in buying that shapes both the creative & practical side of what I do. My work centres on designing pieces that feel considered, tactile, and made to be used – not saved for best. The idea behind 'It's time to use the good paper' comes from that; encouraging people to enjoy using wonderful materials, rather than keep them for a special occasion.
I have always had a love for letters – the feel of the paper, the imperfect inky marks & scribbles, the discovery of someone's handwriting. In a world that moves at a head-spinning pace, writing a letter invites you to pause & think more carefully about what you want to say.
That same thinking carries through into my workshops. I use high quality stationery, inks & tools to give people a chance to slow down, learn something new, and enjoy the process of making something by hand. I have taught hundreds of people, and the most frequent comment at the end of the workshop is 'I really needed that'. There is nothing better than seeing people switch off from everything & completely immerse themselves in creativity.
Alongside workshops, I work with brands to deliver live calligraphy and creative activations. These experiences bring the studio into a live setting - offering guests something personal, considered, and made in the moment.
At its core, my work is about helping people move past the blank page and rediscover a more natural, unpressured way of creating.

I love creating products that give you a memorable experience; the illustrations, handmade elements & packaging have all been carefully considered so that they are as enjoyable to open as they are to use.
Thoughtful, considered design
Every piece is designed with care & attention to detail - from the gently poured wax seals to the hot foil pressed stationery, all made in the studio.
At the heart of the business is the idea that small details make a difference - whether something is bought as a gift of chosen for yourself, the experience of receiving and using it should feel just as considered.
We carefully consider the materials for our stationery, using beautifully tactile & fountain pen friendly paper stock that is made responsibly & sustainably. Sustainability is one of our core brand values, & is always something we think about in terms of what we can do to reduce our carbon footprint. This is why we work with as many UK businesses as possible, and why we have partnered with Ecologi to plant a tree for every order placed.
